modifying pants...simple & easy.

...have I mentioned how much I love my camera when once-in-a-blue-moon it takes pictures like this?!...

So in order to fit into pants, about 90% of the time, I have to modify them by adding length. I am 5'11...so when stores say "tall" on pants, its almost laughable...(or cryable depending on the day). They are almost always 5" too short. Usually pants "x-long" or "long" are 33" inseam, I have a 37.5" inseam. Buckle,  a store in the mall, usually carries two brands of jeans that do fit, which I love, but I can forget about fitting into dress pants, khakis...just not an option for me yet. So when capris came into fashion I got super excited... perfect right?! No, those are too short as well. Who wants knee-high capris?! They look just about as silly as highwater pants. Anyways, I live in jeans or my modified pants...such as these capris with a little extra fun fabric sewed to the bottom...

So needless to say I have a difficult time fitting into pajama pants and scrub pants, so I usually sew my own. But for capri pjs I like to buy a cheap pair of too-short-pants, then cut off about 5 " to make them into capris that fit.

...really not cute...

I'm always wearing bobby pins, so I stand in front of the mirror, roll up the pant leg, and place a few bobby pins where I want the hem to go, then copy it for the other side.
 ...getting better...

...my workspace...

I threw in a few pins, with the pants inside out and then removed the front portion of the machine so that I can work on only one side of the pant leg at a time. I like about 3 hem lines just for fun.

So I have to tell you... this machine...was $44 on Overstock. I used to have a super fancy, expensive machine with a ton of gadgets that quite frankly I never used and would frequently get jammed. I told my mom about my frustrations, and she bought this machine for me instead. Its simple, easy to use, and works extremely well for my simple projects. I love it. Reliably straight and zig zag...who needs anything else?! Not me.

...my new lounging pants, nothing fantastic, but they make me happy...

the in-between....

...there is something extremely definitive about a "not pregnant" instead of the lack of a red line...

So I kind of half-figured that it might take some time to be able to conceive. After all I had been on birth control pills for 8 years... but then the other half of my mind thought that perhaps I'd get pregnant right off the bat without much consideration. However, I never guessed that I'd be right in-between. Now that we have been preparing ourselves mentally, physically, and emotionally for the past 4 months... I have zero period and I am not pregnant. What the heck?! How does this happen?! 50 days sans embryo or period?! Just plain-o-lindsey. Let me tell you... it's mildly (ok, moderately) frustrating. Which I am sure doesn't help a darn thing. We are ready to get going with this spud-making...So I scheduled an appointment with my certified nurse midwife (that I ultimately want to deliver our potential spud) to have a gynie appointment, and as it turns out a pre-conception appointment all rolled into one. And hopefully we get some answers.

Now, I am proud to announce that I have a new plan... it's called... throw out the plan. No more plan, no more stress to adhere to our ideal plan, whenever it happens, it happens (and hopefully it does happen)...nursing school conflicts or not. Can they really hold me back a semester if I fulfill all of my requirements, clinicals, assignments?! Will they really not hire a qualified pregnant nursing grad?! No. That's discrimination... right?! (I hope) AND... I'm having a glass of wine with dinner until this alleged "monthly period" comes back!

lazy sundays...

Oh how I look forward to our lazy Sundays. We have a crazy busy life this semester of school. But Sunday we can sleep in, make breakfast, clean the house, and then just be lazy. This Sunday I learned how to use my camera... here is a sneak peak at our lazy Sundays, as I sit on the floor relaxing.

...Matt playing the guitar, it calms the dogs, we all love it.I can't wait for him to play to our little spud...

...I love it when Colby puts his little arm on my leg...I pretend it's him being affectionate... he probably just wants me to stop moving...

...my wonderful husband thinking I am silly for sitting on the hard floor for over an hour, but I couldn't imagine anywhere else I'd rather be...

logs!

When I think about toys for our kids to play with I think of natural- feel good, and ideally (but not realistically) not plastic toys. Of course this is not obtainable in today's world, especially with all of the adorable plastic toys out there, but I love the feel of real elements- like wood, glass, metal, ceramic. And I want to have less clutter in our lives, slim down the number of things but still providing wonderful learning and playing toys for our kids to enjoy their childhood...and just be kids.
When I had my own Montessori classroom I had very limited amount of plastic items. The philosophy behind it is that when a child picks up a clear, glass-looking drinking glass they feel the weight of glass, there is no misconception with light plastic that looks like glass. You give your child real pure items, that they enjoy, love, and learn to respect. Glass breaks...great! Let's work together on cleaning it up! And it probably won't happen again. They then know glass is heavy, it's breakable, and we go on with life...it's not a disaster. Lesson learned! So when I stumbled upon this adorable wood block set, of real logs I just about died. How perfect. I loved it. So when I showed it to Matt...he just didn't get it. Who wants to play with logs?! Boring!

3 year anniversary...

...the adorable card matt made for me, in a 3D camera shape...
[photo taken by my canon rebel]

We like to celebrate the first day we met... its kind of a big deal :) So that happens to be February 20th, 3 years ago. We will still celebrate our wedding day, but this date means even more to us. On our very first date it was a blind date at a sushi restaurant in Boulder, CO. We stayed all night until we noticed them putting up the chairs all around us. It was a fantastic first date, nothing ordinary. So each year we go out to sushi to celebrate our Feb 20th and to top it off matt gave me a very much wanted (but not needed) 50mm f1.8 lens for my new camera, even though I don't quite know how to use it yet I am very excited! Thus the camera-shaped card. And I gave him a very much needed 90 min. massage at a local day spa- this will be his first professional massage ever, so we will see if this was a good or bad gift.

saying goodbye to wine...

...the invitation I made for our wine tasting party and the picture was taken with my new camera, that I absolutely LOVE...

So in honor of saying goodbye to wine for a few years we decided to throw a wine tasting party with our Idaho friends in January. It was a blast! Each couple brought their favorite wine, at the door I threw it in a bag with a number on it and lined them up. We then tasted (who am I kidding...we devoured...) about 10 wines, white and red...without knowing the names of the wines or seeing their cute labels. We scored the wines individually then unveiled the bottles... we were shocked. Our favorite wine was...Carlo Rossi. What the heck?! Matt and I could have sworn our favorite wine all of these past years was a nice old vine marietta. Nope. Surprisingly the ol' carlo jug is our palette's wine of choice.
So as we all drank into the night, my girlfriends told me about how some of their pregnant friends were told by their doctors that they could have a glass of wine every night. That these pregnant women were so stressed out, that if a glass of wine mellowed them, then perfect. Seriously drinking during pregnancy?! Interesting. Pregnant women are incredibly hard to do studies on, how much alcohol is okay? At what point do you have the risk for fetal alcohol syndrome? Not that I will be drinking alcohol anymore, but its an interesting idea... how much do we really know about that prenatal period?! I am sure there will be a whole slew of items to avoid 20 years from now.

it's february.

You know what this means?! Spud time! How did these months fly by so quickly? Unreal. So of course I have utilized those ovulation calendars. We aren't super stressed out- if it happens, it happens...if not...we had fun. I know stress can effect many things, including spud arrivals....so we will be stress-free. I looked up WebMD's ovulation calendar, and according to Dr. Web, I could give birth December 4th-ish 2011! And if no luck this month, then maybe the next month. Unbelievable. I actually feel like we are ready. I have started my OB/mother/baby clinical and I feel good about what we are attempting to embark on. I know whats coming, and I can do it. And I found out my hospital offers tons of baby classes- one of which is hypnobirthing! Fantastic. They won't look at me like a granola-tree-huggin' gal (that I really am not). Awesome!

To Do's that are DONE:
  • go to the dentist, cavity free! They did over 20 xrays! I was so happy to have this done with.
  • go to the dermatologist
  • limit coffee to 1 cup or less a day (this is hard, but doable...warmth with spring will make this easier to just drink cold healthy things like milk and water)
  • debt free... we owe nothing (besides school loans) and we are sitting pretty to be able to be saving. yay!
  • prenatal vitamins still going strong.
  • eating healthier....fruits and veggies, less eating out.
Still To Do's:
  • schedule a pre-conception apt. This I am having a hard time with. Do I really need this appointment?! I think we read enough to know whats healthy and whats not. We have very few risks. I think I want to forego this apt. I kind of want to save up our money/insurance costs for the real-deal prenatal appointments. Bad idea?! Maybe.
  • figure out how to incorporate exercise into my already super busy schedule.

some huge questions...

[my journal]

Depending on the day, sometimes the hour, we have wavering feelings of capability to be having a child. We have some huge questions that we have asked ourselves, and continue to daily. This is where reading other wonderful blogs is incredibly helpful. Just seeing that other couples are taking this huge leap and succeeding. I have found it also helps me to read books about what to expect, how to budget for a baby, and talking to other people at work in the exact same situation- same health insurance, same 12 hour long days of work, and all the while maintaining great relationships with husbands/wives they love. I have found that if I write them down in my journal, then I am better able to address our concerns based on feelings, research, and thoughts in an organized manner. But as you can tell, I love making lists.

Some of our big questions...
-how do we have time for a spud?
-do we have enough money?
-should we wait?
-what will our schedules look like with school and work?
-can we keep our house clean, yard picked up?
-how about with 3 dogs and a spud?
-how can we balance our time?
-can we handle school? w/ pregnancy? w/ baby? w/ appointments? w/ a sweet little face looking up at us when we have other less fun obligations?
-will nursing clinicals allow a pregnant student? give slack with due dates when delivering?
-insurance costs? day care?

Do you have any big questions about rearing a child? How it will affect your lives? Any advice?

camera update!

...big smile. check...

It's here!! We bought a camera... I couldn't be more excited. Matt and I spent hours researching which grown-up camera to buy, and after thinking about it, posting about it [here], budgeting for it...we finally did it! I ordered it: an adorable non-camera-looking-camera bag, cutest etsy amy butler camera strap, a guide of how to use this camera, and the camera- Canon EOS Rebel T1i. And it only took 2 days to get to the doorstep. Amazon sure is amazing. Matt and I will be taking a photography class over the summer before the spud arrival so that we know how to take great pictures and we even have plenty of time to play around with it.

Once we narrowed down the brands, the big decision was between the Canon XS and the "upgrade" [aka more expensive one] T1i. The T1i has a video function, which we read in the reviews totally blows in quality... but then I saw some videos of the camera-video-portion in action. Oh my. Unbelievably perfect. Exactly what I want. Blurry pictures AND videos. Perfect. [of course I do need want an additional lens, to be totally perfect] Just look at this video with the T1i, this video, or this one. Fun right?! So, I was sold on it. And Matt convinced me to spend the extra money, splurge on something we will keep for decades. I will let you all know if it was all worth it. I added a link to each of the items we bought, but watch for the prices to drop on amazon...they flucuate daily it seems. So we just waited for the best deal, which I think we really lucked out.

This is our purchase...priceless I hope:

our little greeting card family

...the picture may look familiar...

This is our first time we decided to do a happy-holidays-card at christmas. We have been together almost 3 years....and yet we hadn't even considered sending out cards before. I guess since we are married now I feel like a grown up, so this would be the grown up thing to do. We have a tradition that each year we cut down a christmas tree in the wilderness [with a tree permit of course] and we bring our snow dog with us on our excursion... this year we decided we could bring all three, go snow shoeing, AND take our little family photo. Now I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a little bit of excitement about next years photo....perhaps it will have a big ol' bump...or even a sweet little spud in our Idaho wilderness. I can't wait!!
Want to see the progression?!

-Feb 2008: Fort Collins, Colorado-
[Matt and I snowshoeing on our second date in Colorado...what can I say... its our thing!]
-2008: Mt. Hood, Oregon-

tree victory...our first one.
-2009: Idaho City, Idaho-
...second tree, less enthused...

-2010: This year...Idaho City, Idaho-
...so how adorable are these guys? Sticking three of their heads out one small window in the back of the truck driving up to the snow...

...we could not get the dogs to sit still, it was ridiculous, we had to take 30 pictures just to get the one for the card, I think because Matt usually throws the dogs in rivers, they didn't want to turn their backs to it. I think Chewy's face says it all. What a good old dog...

...walking to the truck with the tree of choice, crossing the river with the 3 goonies in tow...

the nursery...a small nursery.

...my office that will be turned into the nursery...

We happen to be renting a house in a very cute part of Boise that we LOVE. The house is old, small, quirky, and it just so happens that the owners did an incredible job with paint color, style, etc. So we don't want to move, even with the addition of one more little human being to this small house. Therefore we will be keeping the color of the room the same, bright sun-yellow. I actually love how bright and welcoming the room is, and it is gender neutral, for whatever that means these days. I want to stay with the yellows-then add in accents of turquoise for a boy, pink for a girl. You can also see those dark brown bamboo curtains and hardwood floor- so we will be sticking to dark browns also. The room is 87" x 88" = small! or... 7.25' x 7.33'= just big enough for a small spud, small crib, small changing table, and a small recliner. And ideally all on a small budget :)

The furniture in the nursery-
Matt's parents have a changing table just like this one, that they used for all three of their kids back in the day. They have saved it all of these years and have offered to give it to us! It happens to be a dark-stain wood, which I'd like to paint white and perhaps put some cute drawer knobs on.

Cost: free! [at pottery barn, this one goes for $799!]

I LOVE jenny lind cribs, and yes I know they were recalled. That was a little bit of a tear jerker. However I still love the old fashioned look. So to deal with the recall issue- Matt will be stabilizing and permanently locking the rails in the upright position. I am 5'11, Matt is 6'1..and we aren't dainty people...I know we are going to have a massive child. Stabilizing the rails, sturdying the whole frame sounded like an ideal plan from the start for the spud to be safe. So we found a jenny lind crib on craigslist for a steal, and it too is dark wood. We will be re-finishing it and painting it white this summer (with low VOC paint of course and outside for zero harmful fumes). While researching how to accomplish this I found some great sites- our green house-which is all about organic, safe products to use in the home and then-eco childs play-about a great paint brand to use that is low VOC. Recycling is eco-friendly right?!

Cost: $15 [at Toy's R Us this crib is $199]

We have a little closet/nook in the office that I plan to clear out and place a little white table in with this lamp on top of it. I already own this lamp, so that's easy. With a few books, supplies, and a blanket we should be set.

Cost: free!

I need to find a brown leather recliner. This is a trickier issue. I have been searching on craigslist for a used one from a smoker-free house. So this is still in progress. I am hoping to find one there or I found a super comfy recliner at Costco for $470. Not too bad, if we must. This recliner will also go in the closet/nook and serve as the primary feeding chair, in which Matt or I can rock the lil spud to sleep and be utterly comfortable for hours upon hours. This rocker we can also incorporate into our living room when needed, for we have a couch that is also brown leather.

Cost: to be determined.

prego- book thoughts...

...at home in my office-to-be-nursery you can see the bright yellow walls...

Well I spent my last day off over winter break at Barnes and Noble. This is usually my "treat" to myself... for the past 6 years or so...its my thing. I go and wander around the store, pick a handful of books, and buy a coffee and just sit and read them. I really don't have the money to actually purchase handfuls of books, even though I really would love to. So I journal about what I read, what strikes me, and titles I hope to buy one day and I just soak it all up. In the past I'd love the relationship...I believe its technically called the self-help aisle... ha! Oh college days. Then it was teaching books...to decorating/ nesting...then weddings galore...and now babies! I love this me-time.

So this past Tuesday it was all pregnancy books, hypnobirthing, pregnancy magazines...and hot chocolate instead. I happened to actually buy a book- Hypnobirthing: The Mongan Method by Marie Mongan. I haven't had a chance to read the whole thing, and once I do I will post more about it. But it follows all of my ideals of having a natural child birth that I want. Like I mentioned before with my plan, that I'd like to be fully prepared about what will be happening to my body... then letting it take over and having the faith in myself that I am capable. I can get past the pain (in theory) and that fear causes pain...so I can try not to be fearful, to believe in myself. I need Matt, as my birthing companion, to be able to keep this peaceful environment for me, our spud...and potentially to help alleviate some of the stress that potentially the hospital staff may create. So I plan on reading this book before I meet with my OB, that way I am confident and educated in my natural-birth choice and armed with a non-epidural pain killer...positive thoughts! Anyone ever done hypnobirthing? Does it work?

nursery decor...

wee gallery
Adorable!! Go check them out!! [ http://www.weegallery.com/artcards.html ] The wall decals are a great idea for rental apartments/ homes...a fun way to add color to the babe's room. So simple and beautiful. Or maybe this little girl is just irresistibly adorable?!
wee gallery
I also LOVE the poms. I had great intentions to hang poms at our wedding, over our dance floor grass but it never happened with the hundreds of other projects. So perhaps this is my time now. How do I attach them to the ceiling though?! We have a bright yellow room that will be our nursery so I am actually trying to add a lack of color to the room... maybe some white and neutral poms? Are poms okay for a boy's room too? I doubt Matt would go for it. More before and after pictures to come of the office-to-nursery transformation takes place...

birthing plan...in progress...

With all of these baby thoughts and next semester starting my maternity/child portion of nursing school I am reminded about this baby movie- The Business of Being Born- I saw a few years back with Matt. I just watched it again...and it is truly great! It's a documentary on the industry of child births...and how giving birth doesn't need to be treated like an emergency. Most of the time pregnancies can progress naturally, without intervention, and on your own biological time schedule. And with a walk away message that if you want to have a natural childbirth, have it at home with a midwife!
When I was in college for the first go-around, I received my degree in child development. I remember taking a specific course on pregnancy/child birth/infancy. This course talked about all of the incredible benefits to having natural childbirth and how it benefited not only your baby in numerous ways but it fostered this unbelievable bond between mother and baby. I need to research more about this to refresh my memory, but it stuck with me that this is the way I want to go- given the option. So I am all for the natural child birth. I also thought I would definitely want to have an at-home, water-birth for my baby. What a peaceful way to bring a child into this world right?!

Leo Hart from The Panic Room Videos on Vimeo....a perfect example of a truly beautiful, mind-blowing at-home birth...

Well after much time in hospitals working, seeing how quickly normal-healthy situations can get scary fast, and actually now being in the position to have a child...instead of a wide-eyed-optimistic 22 year old... I want a hospital birth. No water. No mess in my house. No stress. If I were at home I would be so stressed out in my mind that something would go wrong, it would absolutely kill any enjoyment of having an at home birth for me. Not to mention the dogs roaming around... yuk. Being naked in a tub?! Not for me. No thanks. It just makes me smile that I had such strong ideas for what I wanted back then... and how easily they all changed, which I am sure they will yet again. But seeing this movie gives me power that I can have the birth I want, granted the spud is healthy, and I want to make sure I choose the right doctor now that will listen.

My birthing plan [in progress]
-stay at home with contractions until they progress in intensity
-ipod music... this is something that I NEED. This calms me.
-natural childbirth
-no epidural
-no c-section
-no induction
-deliver at the hospital I work at
-calm voices. I do not want people yelling at me to push. I don't think adults should yell, it agrivates me. I will understand biologically what is going on in my body, I understand hospitals, the vitals, monitoring, pain, interventions... I am comfortable with it. But I need soft, confident, peaceful voices. I love the traumas we get where we all all organized, peaceful, work as a team, and use quiet calming voices. I need that.
-matt by my side, only. Nurses, doctors, residents, student nurses...whatever, thats all great. But I'd like family to come into town a few days after giving birth, this is something I feel rotten about wanting. But I think I want some time to adjust to being a mom, matt being a dad, and our new family. Then have the rush of family/friends excitement. Being that our families are from different states I think this might be doable.

...trailer for Business of Being Born, FYI- you can watch the actual movie instantly on netflix...

in search of a new camera...

...beautiful pictures my good friend Jessica took at my wedding...

I'd like to get a new camera... or start saving up for one. We have a nice enough digital, simple camera that works well but I want to really be able to take some beautiful pictures of my belly growing and our precious spud. Matt and I don't know anything about cameras... any advice? Nikon? Fuji? What is a simple-user-friendly camera that can give us beautiful pure pictures?! You know, where there is something in focus and the distant things are blurry?! It gives a great feeling to the moment, no imperfections. I love it.

maternity leave...spud days.

All of this planning may sound crazy, but I love planning!! I am a list maker, if that wasn't already obvious. So of course I am planning my maternity leave. I know it will be absolutely the hardest thing to go back to school and work with our new spud at home. It is not ideal, but it has to happen. But the time off I do have has to be realistic. We need to find a balance between the amount of money we need to live on and how precious our time is being new parents. Fortunately I do get maternity leave- due to the family and medical leave act. Yay!
I get to have 3 months of un-paid leave regardless for giving birth to a child, then half of that time off is 66 2/3% of my base salary paid leave (tiny amount, but we can make do)...so that's 6 weeks of partial pay. Then if I want the other 6 weeks paid I need to save up my PTO (paid time off) I accrue every paycheck. Because I work a different number of hours every week (36-50 hrs) I get a different amount of PTO each paycheck, its unreliable and rather difficult to figure out. So I made a spreadsheet to keep me on track with how many hours I am accruing and to encourage me to save them for a worthy cause... spud days!!
So here is my spreadsheet in excel that I threw together. I have time to start saving the hours, but also with the holidays I know I need to use some PTO before next year. The total number of hours I need for fulltime pay for 6 weeks is 216 hours!! I have about one year to save hours, each month has 2-3 paychecks (thus paycheck #1,2,3 for each month), then a column for hours I used that month, then the grand total.
I think I can get close, even though I am at a daunting 24 hrs as of yet, however if I have a ton of stressful test weeks next semester or morning sickness days it may throw off my accumulation efforts :( I also plan on working right up until the day I deliver, working in a hospital there is no safer place to do that. Then all of my time off can be with the spud! So we shall see if I get a say in all of this. Anyone have a plan that works? How do you plan to save money?

timing of the spud...

...super cute onesie from etsy...

Well, we told both of our sets of parents about our "plan." We were both a little nervous, sure both sets of parents are incredibly supportive and absolutely wonderful... but we might be rushing things by planning for a baby now, in their minds. Yes, we do have a few things working against us...Matt and I are both in school full time, recently married, we don't have careers/nice salaries, we are working full time, and we have three huge dogs. But we have a plan!!

the "plan"
(this is assuming ideal situations occur, which we are fully aware is difficult, and somewhat out of our control, but we are positive thinkers...)

-try to get pregnant in February/March 2011 (ahh thats soon! 3 months away)

-spud to arrive during christmas break...Dec 2011/Jan 2012, where we have five weeks off from school for delivery.

-deliver in the hospital I work at... nice, reasonable insurance coverage, with my birthing plan in full effect, to be discussed later.

-take 3 months of maternity leave during most of my last semester of nursing school, so that I only have school, not work...more to come later on how I plan to get paid maternity leave.

-utilize wonderful, affordable childcare at my hospital available 7 days a week, from week 1 on... when matt and I both have school at the same time this will be greatly needed, especially without either of our families living in Idaho... so this will probably around 10 hrs/wk.

-be able to be hired in May 2012 when I graduate nursing school, as a nurse...who is a mom. Why do we want a kid before I graduate, why rush it?! Well, I am a little nervous that being pregnant during my preceptorship in my last semester or applying for a real nursing job upon graduation pregnant (that even though its illegal) they will discriminate and not hire me with fear that I would be taking maternity leave shortly after being hired. With soo many nursing grads being cranked out of programs every semester, I want to be able to take the job of my dreams and fully orient to be a real nurse. So with this timeline Matt and I will still be able to have little spuds on our time schedule... sooner than later. Matt will have just a year and half more of school to graduate, when we will be wanting our second child...and have two incomes to support our family.

Awesome. Winter spud.

what to expect before you expect you're expecting...

...me giving a toast at my best friends wedding, I can say goodbye to wine...

Time to evaluate what is going on in my own body and what I need to modify before I get pregnant. First topic..prenatal vitamins! I started taking these early because I felt exhausted all the time...granted my schedule is crazy, but seriously?! I'm 27. I should be able to hack a busy life. So, as a good nursing student, I self-diagnosed myself with anemia. I though it would be wise to do a trial of prenatal vitamins from Costco and see if I felt any better.... well...I do! I feel like I am able to stay on top of my daily goals. So I will keep taking these, fantastic.

to do:
- dental exam.
- pre-conception OB appointment, I am waiting for the new calendar year for insurance.
- find time for exercise, I love the idea of an hour long walk a day from sara over on feed the soil, especially with this romantic fall weather and soon to be peaceful snowy winter.
- stop taking birth control pills to allow myself to ovulate regularly
- I've had 3 melanomas removed this year, so that's a never-ending check up with the dermatologist to stay on top of being cancer-free.

what I do that's potentially unsafe...
-highlights
-paint my nails
-drink 1-2 cups of coffee daily
-drink a glass of wine about 2 times a month
-sushi.... I love sushi, so california rolls here I come
-don't eat a great amount of veggies and fruit like I should
- I am exposed to xrays and CT scans at work in the ED... I always wear lead, but unless the pt is actively tanking...I think I need to step 6 ft away, and wear a full lead ensemble.
- not to mention blood, needles, fluids, HIV, TB, Hep C... and the list goes on. wash my hands! be safe and smart!...ok.
- doing CPR?! debatable... can I do this pregnant?! If I am the only one around, sure I wouldn't give it a second thought, but should I let another take over the compressions for me?! Probably.

Those are the big ones....anything I am overlooking?!
