I have been extremely good at minimizing the dreaming of baby items. Which is very unlike me. I've tried to be reasonable...focus on the non-materialistic side of having a child (ie. loving little spud to pieces, how she will impact our routines, going camping together as a family, interacting the babe with the dogs, what joy a child will bring into our lives, etc.) But seriously. Now that I know spud is a girl... I can't stop thinking about all of the cute & simple clothing. I am even impressed that matt likes some of the things I have picked. I like the gender neutral, color neutral, non-kid-esq type of clothing, accessories, and decor. It's really fun. It's hard to be on a budget, but maybe that makes the searching even more fun. I have to 100% like an item to spend the money on it.But I have no concept of how many onesies we need in each size or how many burp cloths would be appropriate to sew, or how many sweet little footed-elephant-PJs do we need? It kind of feels a lot like planning for our wedding though. We didn't have a ton of money to spend right before the wedding, but we could spend a little money over the months leading up to it for diy projects and such. So, once maternity leave hits I think I need to be at home and not spending money...but these months leading up to spud arrival I could be making some smart purchases...right?! Please?!
ohh so cute! my friend has a 1.5 year old little boy and we were just at the carter's outlet and just about died over all the pj's. His nick name is "bear" so he went home with those every same bear foot pj's. they were irresistible! They were also, really inexpensive... which makes it even harder to leave with out more than one pair! So excited you are having a little girl AND are into the gender neutral clothing scheme... i will love seeing what you pick out!

ReplyDeletePicking out clothes is oh so much fun, but you are right how much to buy for each size is always a question! Let me just tell you one thing. The first few months you are not going to have any use for actual outfits. Yes they are so cute all tiny and sweet, but seriously not practical!! You will want lots on jammies, I would say between 7-14 and get ones with zippers when possible. Snaps are a pain at 3am when you are half asleep. Also get a lot of onsies. I went to a gently used child's store and got onsies for a dollar that were Carter's brand that looked like they had never been used!!! I would say 14 onsies. They just grow to fast to wear them out. Remember the less you get the more you will feel like you have truly "used" the clothes you do get. Also everyone loves to buy 3 month clothes, so when I buy clothes I always go bigger. I have even gotten 24month stuff, just bec it was so cute. As far as burp clothes make as many as you can. You will go through them like crazy!! We have about 30 and will be getting more!!! You seriously can't have enough of them and stash them in different parts of the house so you won't have to go far when you need them. But as far as clothes, less really is more. Enjoy picking out little things that you love that is part of being a mommy! Oh and don't buy newborn size until you know if she will be fitting in that size. Hope this is some what helpful, I remembering asking all the same questions, I learned so much from other mommies. So you can always ask me anything :)
ReplyDeleteA couple of things. One, people want to buy you clothes. They do not want to buy you anything else. Even if you have a registry. Two, make sure all PJs have zippers not snaps and that they have feet. Changing diapers in the dark with snaps are impossible. Consider the season that they will be worn. Carters has an AMAZING return policy. I returned all PJs that did not have thezippers or feet.

trying to get pregnant is at a stalemate- my body is not regular yet after going off the pill, in fact today is day 76 (but who is counting!) of my cycle with many negative pregnancy tests. so that is fun. it is potentially my thyroid- was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in september and am still working on getting my levels right with medicine. hoping that is all it is... but made a plan with my doctor for some thorough tests to run the end of january if needed. i am just looking at it as all a practice in patience for when we do have a little one. or at least trying to :-) with lots of yoga and acupuncture to try to stay calm.
