Well, I have had some time to pinterest-around. Little sunshine (aka cora) naps pretty well and sleeps through the night for now- which means I have some free time on my hands! I have been dreaming of what I can do with Cora when she is a big girl. Oh, I can't wait for the craft time we can share. So much fun! But for now I do the crafts for her.

So I jumped on a pinterest find.... taggy blanket. Cora loves tags on all things. They are silky, smooth...and unfortunately, I think, rather ugly. Initially I cut the tags off of all things cora-bound. I love using my seam ripper to take all of those tacky labels off of Cora's toys and clothes. Whoops. She loves them. Bad mommy. So, in lieu of her tag obsession I made a taggy blanket last night. She also loves sucking on wash cloths- like in the bath, or burp rags....so what a perfect combo- I think.

I had some left over flannel fabric from her fitted sheet project and some fleece laying around. I bought $14 worth of ribbon- what a rip off. Anyways. The ribbon is turquoise... and green... and it makes me happy. I sewed it all together- first sewing it improperly- so I re-did it....and voila! A tiny pretty taggy blanket, that happens to match her room. She likes it so far, but we shall see if it lasts.

 

Next on my craft-to-do list:

- artwork for Cora's plain-o room. yet to be determined, but pinterest will definitely be involved.

- fall wreath for our front door...yay... i love the holiday season!

- recruit matt to help with a "busy board" from above

- ribbon octopus to keep cora's toys from hitting the ground when we go out to eat

paint chips & pinterest wednesday

So I mentioned a few posts ago (here) that I wouldn't make christmas cards this year. Well, we didn't really but I did make three of them. And I loved making each one. We had a bunch of paint chips laying around for the spud room inspiration colors, so I decided to make a trendy christmas card out of them. Pinterest, as you know, is full of paint chip crafts. Super cute. Well I made this one up myself...I am sure its out there somewhere but I feel original in thinking up my own creation.

We used elfster this year as I talked about before...so I also made some little paint chip tree gift tags for our secret santa gifts. Super fun.

Also with my paint chips I cut out inspiration colors for the spud room for my journal. I carry this journal around with me everywhere. So it was only appropriate for me to find paint chips that matched the room colors and our intended accent colors to take shopping with me.

Well I have been doing a lot of thinking about the spud nursery. I finally have enough energy in this second trimester to even contemplate tackling a project. I thought about my inspirations to have a yellow and gray nursery here... remember? Adorable. Well, on closer inspection it's not really yellow, it's more of an orange. Like pumpkin on two of the walls and pumpkin latte on the other. Wishful thinking on the yellow room. It's orange. So, on Pinterest Wednesday I am now looking for orange inspiration. Why is that such an uncommon color? I think it's cheery and gender neutral. And it happens to already be the color of the room....easy!

I think it will be the same look in the room as someone who paints theirs bright turquoise or yellow- it's bold. And I will have the duty to mellow it, make it peaceful, and serene. Am I able to do it?! We shall see.

Did I also mention it's a room that is teeny-tiny?! Like 7' x 7' tiny, with a little closet/nook. Back here is when I talked about the size and how it's my office currently. Yup, small. But babies are small right? Oh, it will be so helpful to know if we are expecting a little boy or girl. Then the few accent colors and artwork pieces can be chosen accordingly. So much fun!

Last night was the first time I have cooked in a couple of months. Let me tell you...it was a BIG deal. I have been craving almost anything lemon-sour-fruity. So I looked on pinterest to find some inspiration, and I found these... They were fantastic, especially if you're pregnant and love a little sour. It was so good,  want to share the recipe with you...

[Lemon Crinkle Cookies]


Ingredients:
½ cups butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
½ teaspoons vanilla extract
1 whole egg
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice
¼ teaspoons salt
¼ teaspoons baking powder
⅛ teaspoons baking soda
1-½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cups powdered sugar
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Whip in vanilla, egg, lemon zest, and juice. Scrape sides and mix again. Stir in all dry ingredients slowly until just combined, excluding the powdered sugar. Scrape sides of bowl and mix again briefly. Pour powdered sugar onto a large plate. Roll a heaping teaspoon of dough into a ball and roll in powdered sugar. Place on baking sheet and repeat with remaining dough.
Bake for 9-11 minutes or until bottoms begin to barely brown and cookies look matte {not melty or shiny}. Remove from oven and cool cookies about 3 minutes before transferring to cooling rack.

And remember when I said I would branch out from sweets on pinterest?! Well I kind of did. I also made dinner last night- crazy right?! I never make dinner, even in non-prego-state. Matt is just a way better cook, and he actually likes cooking. But I made potato-apple-gratin. Oh my, so delicious. Here in Idaho its still scorching out, you couldn't tell fall is right around the corner. But this dish made me feel like it's autumn.

It happens to be gluten free- if you care, I don't. But I did have all of the ingredients on hand, minus the cream, so it was rather cheap and fun to make. Here is my adapted recipe, the original website I think is blogger from France? maybe Canada? anyways- it said cook at 180 degrees. So I started to... then realized it was probably Celsius, for that would take about a day to cook in Fahrenheit. Totally dumb. So don't do that!

[Apple Potato Gratin]

1 apple
10 little white potatoes (that's what I had on hand)
4 oz heavy whipping cream (7 tablespoons)
3.5 tablespoons milk
1/3 cup green onion, washed and finely sliced
1/2 cup grated cheese (I chose cheddar and jack pre-shredded)
butter
salt + pepper, to taste
Directions:
Heat oven to 350 deg F and grease a glass dish with butter.
Wash the apple and potatoes (their skin contains the best nutrients to its better to keep it on!) and slice thinly with a knife or mandolin. I used a Cuisinart slicer for apples and potatoes- took about 5 minutes.

Layer the dish... really in whatever fashion you like or not at all... I did it like this...

cheese
potatoes & apples & onions & salt & pepper [top]

Whisk together the cream and milk and pour over the top. Cover with foil and bake for approximately 50 minutes. Remove foil. Add a light layer of cheese and a little butter on top and bake for another 15 minutes or until cooked through. Cool slightly, cut and serve.

...now I just need to get enough energy to do these...

So I thought I would share with you my favorite pinterest items on some wednesdays. And it's my goal to actually set aside time to be able to make/do/enjoy some of these seemingly endless wonderful ideas.
